ICT Computers ISPS

This week we have been using EdCube to make a digital portfolio. Portfolios are things that you make to show your work to others and you can put topic headings like personal me, creative me, thinking me, cooperative me and many more things. Under the topic headings you write subheadings that lead to other pages. I liked designing the front or contents page that all of the other pages linked off.

Here is my contents page.

Portfolios make it easier to look at your class projects on the computer. Instead of searching the whole computer when you want to show your parents what you have done you can just bring up your digital portfolio.

In computers today we worked on our digital portfolio. We add new topics and pages and wrote about the topics. I think that the EdCube digital portfolios will be good for people to see what we do in class.

In computers this week we have been working on our own digital portfolio. I think they are really fun to work on and you can take up as much space as you want to. One of the things you can do is put in photos of you or your friends on your personal page.

We learnt about 3 different programs you can use to make portfolios. You can make one using PowerPoint. Another way you can make one on is just as a web page, but I didn’t like that idea because anyone can access it and then there is program called EdCube, which I think is the best and they program we are using to make our portfolios.

It is a heap of fun and you should try it some time.

For this week we have been working on a new thing called digital portfolios. They are helping us learn about other people and what they like and don’t. Even though we have just starting it seems like everyone is enjoying making them. Their is lots of different types of portfolios, like a class portfolio and an individual portfolio which is what we are working on now.

This week in computers we are learning how to use KahootZ 3. We learn how to use key points and swatches. Today we learnt how to add sounds to an Xpression. Next week two people from my class will give a mini-lesson on how to use the explosion tool. It is lots of fun.

In this weeks computer session we learnt to:

Record our voice and make it play on our Kahootz world. To do it we had to go into record and record our voice and then we inserted it. We also used atmosphere sounds and Kahootz sounds.

This term has been one of using ICT for creating for the year 2 to 6 students.

Years 2/3 and 3/4 have embarked upon building their own games using Scratch. Scratch is a free programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art. Student have reviewed other peoples’ Scratch games and identified some key elements that are common in all games. Using these elements they have planned their own game to program in Scratch and are at the point of constructing different elements of their games. At the end of each session they have been reflecting on the mathematical thinking they have used, on the problems they have encountered and how they have solved theses problems. What a lot to fit into a 60 minute session per week.

Years 4/5 and 5/6 students have been exploring the new version of Kahootz (Kahootz 3). Kahootz is an educational multimedia creative program created by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation. Using this program, anyone can make 3D animations using the pre-made objects and backgrounds. The student have been familiarising themselves with the program and it’s new features and creating simple animations. Have a look at this weeks student reviews to see what the students have learnt in Kahootz and see some snapshots of the Xpressions.

Years preps and ones have been doing a unit on internet safety. Individually and as a whole class students have been using the Netty’s World site to explore important issues about keeping themselves safe when they use the internet. They have consolidated this knowledge by creating posters and graphic organisers to promote Netty’s 5 Forget-Me-Nots to other students.

1. Get Help (from a parent or guardian)

2. Be Nice (think about other net users)

3. Think Again (how might what you do affect you later)

4. Stay Safe and Secure (when ever you are on the Internet)

5. Protect What’s Private (don’t give out any personal information on the Internet)
