Each year Irymple South Primary School hold their Athletic Sports Carnival on the school grounds. All students from Prep to year six participate in this event to earn points for their house. Each student who participates earns points for their house. The house with the most points at the end of all the events wins the sports. The Athletic Sports consist of a varied number of traditional and non-traditional track and field events ranging from 100 meter sprint to fox tail throw. The emphasis is placed on participation as a much as it is on athletic ability.
Congratulations to McCracken (RED) House for being the 2015 Athletic Champions!
An important part of the carnival is the marching in house teams, just like they do in the Olympics. The marching makes up a part of our Opening Ceremony and points are awarded to the houses based on the standard of the lines, quietness, marching form and form of the flag bearers.
Congratulations to Dewry (BLUE) House for being the 2015 Marching Champions!
Another part of the Opening Ceremony is the oaths of participation read by representatives on behalf of the different groups involved in the day. These are the students, parents and officials. This year the oaths were read by year six student Thomas Jaensch (student oath), Diedre Jaensch (parent oath) and Sharon Branson (officials oath).
Although the athletic sports has strong focus on participation it is also an opportunity to reward excellence in this sporting field. Each year a number of new school records are set in the different events. To set a school record is an exceptional achievement.
